BrownshilI Dolmen, near Carlow The Brownshill Dolmen, near Carlow Town is one very unmistakable monument dating back to pre-historical times. The magnificent capstone has excited the interest of many antiquarians and tourists down through the years. The dolmen has a grantie capstone weighing about 100 tonnes and is the largest of its kind in Europe. It is thought that religious rites, possibly even human sacrifice, were performed there for four and a half thousand years (2500 B.C.) and is testament to the fact that even our ancestors in the mists of pre-history regarded the area as somewhere special. Signposted, direct access - 3km from Carlow town on the Hacketstown road. Carlow town, with a population of 22,000 is the county town and gateway to the South-East standing at the confluence of the Barrow and Burrin rivers. As a strategic river crossing, the town was the scene of a number of important battles and the Anglo Normans signalled its importance by building the great Carlow Castle in 13th century. A vibrant college and market town, Carlow enjoys a thriving arts and crafts community, an exciting nightlife, a strong tradition of Irish Language and culture and a superb range of shops, boutiques and restaurants. It is situated in the South East of Ireland, approximately 90 kms from the ferry and airports of Dublin, Rosslare and Waterford. Carlow is one of Ireland's most charming inland counties. Its central location offers the perfect base to explore the bordering counties of Wexford, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Kildare and Laois.

All Saints Aghade Church History suggests that in the fifth century, Saint Iserninus, Saint Patrick's nephew, resided in and was buried at Aghade. It is argued that Iserninus in close consultation with St. Patrick founded the original church here. The current church is built on the site of a former convent for the nuns of the Order of St. Augustine, founded by Dermot McMurrough, King of Linester in 1151.

Art King of Leinster Headstone, St. Mullins St. Mullins was the burial place of Art MacMurrough Kavanagh, one time King of Leinster, commemorated by this headstone. The vaults of other members of the Kavanagh Clan can be found in the heritage centre, formerly a Church of Ireland Church built in 1811.

Bagenalstown Courthouse at Night Bagenalstown Courthouse was designed by the Scottish-born architect Daniel Robertson for Walter Bagenal.The construction of the courthouse formed part of Bagenal's overall plan to mirror the town on the city of Versailles, in northern France. Shortly after he had made an impressive start, his efforts became frustrated due to the re-routing of the main road away from the town. The Courthouse occupies a raised position overlooking the town and the River Barrow.

Bagenalstown Railway Station Bagenalstown Railway Station was designed by William Deane Butler and is constructed of granite and limestone. The station provides rail connections to Waterford and Dublin and several towns along the way including Carlow, Kilkenny, Athy and Thomastown.
